 Among the limestone mountains are fossil reefs.
And the most famous of them is Mount Ai-Petri (St. Peter), 1234 m high.
It`s summit is well-seen from many points of South Coast.
Ai-Petri commands a breathtalking panoramic view of South Coast from
Mount Ayu-Dag, not far Gurzuf town, to Mount Koshka (Cat), in Simeiz.
The jags of Ai-Petri resemble the teeth of a huge
dragon (7-9 m in height). This is an ancient coral reef, having risen
from the sea bottom many million years ago. The Ai-Petri Plateu is also
noted for its karst cavities, the most famous of which are Kaskadnaya
pit (about 400 metres), and Cave Tryokhglazka (of Three Eyes) aquipped
to receive sightseers. From Miskhor town to the jags of Ai-Petri runs a
cable road, offering a most memorable ride.
There are two possibilities to visit Ai-Petri Mount from Yalta downtown of from Yalta sea port: by serpentine road via mountain forest, or by Cable Car directly from Alupka superb.
